The Good
"Crisco," Miranda Lambert: Not Miranda baiting me with the most over the top disco country confection, complete with "Southern Nights," "Islands In The Stream" and Conway and Loretta references. Is 2026 the year of disco country? Between her work co-producing Ella Langley's hazy, groovy Dandelion and now this miraculous, absurd single, Lambert seems hellbent on making it so. — NW [Came here to say Natalie’s prediction was totally spot on - and I think this song is fun as hell. - MM]
“Planting By the Signs,” Tyler Childers and Senora May (S.G. Goodman): For title track of the deluxe edition of her terrific album Planting By the Signs – titled appropriately (Re) Planting By the Signs – S.G. Goodman recruited Tyler Childers and Senora May for this gorgeous, grounded-to-the-earth cover, the first time the two have released an official recording together. Proceeds from the song will benefit Goodman’s local NPR affiliate, WKMS. I’m sure you’re all well aware of how I feel about Childers’ music, but if you have time today after listening to this song, I also urge you to dig up Senora May’s catalogue. I have 2018’s Lainhart on regular rotation, which has this really unique, relaxed kind of folk approach (All of My Love, which leans into an indie, 90’s rock inspired direction, is also great – “Love You More” is a real favorite). Anyway...if you’re gonna make a deluxe version of an album, this is the way to do it. - MM
“Country,” Senora May: Because see above! - MM
