I went to see Vince Gill at the end of May and it was such a joy. He sounded SO GOOD and played for 3.5 hours with no opener and only a 15 minute intermission. In the new songs he played, two were about civil rights and he talked about how frustrated he is with hate and violence. He played all his hits plus had one of his guitarists play an original and his backup singer sing "Ode to Billie Joe". Almost everyone there looked like my parents, but whatever. The only song missing from his set was his cover of "I can't make you love me". So, now I just want to hear Vince Gill on repeat.
Congratulations on your bundle of joy! Honestly, my kids are super into AJR and Imagine Dragons right now. But when they were younger I would sing them songs at bedtime. My favorites were: Highwomen - Crowded Table, Lori McKenna - Humble and Kind, Chicks - Lullaby (the line "Tomorrow there'll be so much to do, so tonight I'll drift in a dream with you" still gets me), Chicks - Godspeed (Sweet Dreams), Beatles - Blackbird (its the bedtime song for the family in Boss Baby), Kacey Musgraves - All is Found (from Frozen 2 :), Beatles - Hey Jude
For bath time vibes, I used to like to turn on some 60s era Disney orchestra soundtracks: Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp (especially La La Lu), and Robin Hood. Or Fleetwood Mac's Rumors album.
My favorite silly songs to sing to distract them when brushing teeth are "5 Green and Speckled Frogs" (also a good 2 minute timer for brushing) or "Herman the Worm".
I will also throw in a local Minneapolis favorite - Durry. They have a song called Big Boy that my youngest has been singing since he could talk!
In the car I love turning on the local radio station that plays (oldies?) 60s-00s and have them guess what decade the song is from.
Congratulations!! I'm sure this little one will have all of the greats down by year 10. My highschoolers blow my mind with how much they know and can sing along with.
Just in time for Pride, Sarah Nimmo dropped "Underground", a Big Dance Track. She sounds like a combination of La Roux and Annie Lennox. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAzoFb3QLjQ
Abba and Prince have been my oldest kiddos' favorite since she was about 1 and a half years old. (Youngest is still too young to have preferences, but I'm proud that he "danced" other night to my band's live set on the local country radio station.)
The only kids' album I specifically have is Luther Dickinson's Magic Musik for Family Folks. It's got some good folk, blues, New Orleans funk, etc. Definitely an album the adults will enjoy.
My first grandbaby is coming this fall, but my daughter only listens to Christian music. My grandson will have to get the good music at my house! Also, I love Walk Between the Raindrops, just a good song. I think James McMurtry doesn't get nearly as much recognition as he should.
This one is for Natalie and Jonny: https://youtu.be/vFDW7vcwV14
