The Good

"Fuck I.C.E.," Croy and the Boys: Bad Boy Croy (that would be Corey Baum) is singular in his ability to make well-honed honky-tonk tunes that are plain-spoken and clear-eyed in their rebukes of every last toxic establishment, from capitalism to the police to, in this well-timed re-recording, the now extra-powerful, mostly extra-judicial "immigration enforcement" agency I.C.E. Kudos to Croy for making a song anyone would want to sing along to with such timely, necessary lyrics. — NW

"Sex, Drugs and Country Music," Carter Faith: "The word got out that I could tie a cherry stem with my mouth" is one of many naughty little smart one liners in this new one from Carter Faith, who sings with the prettiest warble about sex and drugs and...country music. She goes where others just tiptoe around. - MM

Winged Victory, Willi Carlisle: The vulnerability listeners seem to assign to navel-gazers like Zach Bryan they could find in abundance on Carlisle's growing catalog, where old-time bona fides blend with sprawling, ambitious, unpredictable lyrics. If there's not an instantly obvious anthem like "Critterland" or "Cheap Cocaine," Victory is full of songs that teem with feeling, energy and inspiration. — NW

"You're Gonna Fall," Tami Neilson featuring JD McPherson: I'm in love with this new record from Tami, Neon Cowgirl, and this track with JD McPherson is such a moody, spindly country noir anchored by some of the best pipes in the business. - MM
