The Good

Roll With The Punches, Rebecca Porter: Porter's got a great voice, and a compelling variety of songs and sounds on this album — some old school honky-tonkers, some tightly spun message tunes, and some that perfectly marry modern subject matter and classic sounds ("The Laundry Pile" is the relatable version of Miranda's regrettable "It All Comes Out In The Wash"). Her healthy sense of humor lives right alongside potent lines like "My existence cannot be erased." — NW

Midnight Call,” Abbey Hamilton: I think Abbey might be one of my favorite new lyricists, the way she melds the emotional with the mundane (“get stoned and sit in silence, order food and watch TV”). The perfect balance of delicate acoustic folk and a big rock build up, too. - MM

"Alamosa," Charley Crockett: It's refreshing to hear Charley lean into some of his vintage R&B influences again as well as the old school country on this new album, Dollar A Day. Easy to forget sometimes that he did a lot of blues and R&B back before he became an Americana darling! — NW [ adding in a mention of “Destroyed,” also off the new record and in a similar vein. Just saw him play this live, and such a damn boogie! - MM]
