Put a Record On: For the Mothers
I've been thinking about motherhood lately. Just kidding - I think about it and write about it all the time, because it's obviously very much a part of who I am, as a mom to two young kids who refuses to hide this part of myself in a professional setting for the comfort of men (been there, done that, no thank you). But now my partner in this very newsletter, Natalie, is on the verge of parenthood herself (extremely exciting!), so it felt like the perfect time to make a playlist I've been wanting to put together for a while, which is one celebrating some music-making mothers I love. I also saw that friend of the newsletter (and mom of two) Michaela Anne just launched a Kickstarter for her new album, the perfectly named The Holiness in the Humdrum. I love what she writes here:
What if the real magic is found in the quiet moments that no one sees? Dust dancing in the light of a window.
Belly laughter so good it leaves you just a little hoarse.
Drinking coffee in the kitchen looking at the mess left over from breakfast with your family.
My daughter’s tiny hand in mine.
