Because it's Mother's Day this weekend, and I sure do!
Did you know it’s Mother’s Day this weekend? It’s impossible not to know, based on the sheer amount of emails I’ve gotten trying to sell things we are supposed to like (pink socks! a discount on shutters! a new pair of leggings!) that will make up for an entire existence of exhaustion and lack of societal support. It’s like magic!
But anyway, it’s been a rough go. I’m a mom, so I usually enjoy this holiday, but I’m dreading it this year. It’s the first Mother’s Day my mom is gone, and the constant onslaught of mom-things for the past month and change, especially around the anniversary of her death and her upcoming birthday, has made each day feel like I’m moving slowly through mud just to get to wherever I am going. And yes, I will go talk this out in therapy soon. But for now, I want to disassociate, and maybe you do too!
