The Good
“Another Broken Heart,” Wonder Women of Country (Kelly Willis, Melissa Carper, & Brennen Leigh): Lord knows I love a supergroup, almost as much as I love a sad-ass country song. So, with “Another Broken Heart” we have a win-win from some of the best traditional-leaning musicians in the game. Excited to see what the full EP, due in March, brings. - MM
“No One But You,” Golden Everything: I was very happy to hear that Nashville mainstays Zach Schmidt and Jackie Berkley had partnered up as an official duo (which makes a lot of sense since they are also legally partnered up as husband and wife). This is a simple duet about love and devotion, sung beautifully with an earnestness I’m often missing. - MM
“Folsom Prison Blues,” Veronique Medrano: Turning this Johnny Cash tune into a Tejano bop is, it turns out, completely perfect? - MM
