The Good
Shards of Beauty "40 years of unreleased tracks", Michael Hurley: RIP to a legend of this music, whose last concert I was somehow lucky enough to witness a few days ago. Understated and generous — aspirational qualities for all of us. I saw this collection floating around on social media yesterday, and am really excited to listen to it — so excited I figured I'd share it with all of you :) — NW
“Finish This Drink,” Brothers Osborne: I squealed a couple bars in? A shit kicking, fun as hell country song that gets a little weird and a little bluesy but would be absolutely insane live? This is what Bros do best, if not better than most right now. - MM
Do it Myself, Olivia Ellen Lloyd: In a world full of singer-songwriters trading in their most vulnerable moments, somehow Lloyd's personal, vivid songs just ring a little truer and more raw. I'm partial to "Friday Night," which I already mentioned in the newsletter earlier this year, but Do it Myself is well-worth a front-to-back spin or two; the production puts the songwriting front-and-center with enough twangy touches to feel fleshed out. — NW
"Yard Sale," Priscilla Block: We're not reinventing the wheel here, but I'm still pro. Her ex seems to have been loaded though — Luccheses and a Green Egg grill?? — NW
