“Dance The Night Away,” Gaby Moreno: On the gypsy-jazz spectrum of country (Sierra Farrell dabbles in this world too), this is super lovely and quite romantic. Pedal steel makes everything better. — NW

“Prenup,” Nicolle Galyon: Nicolle’s debut solo album, First Born, was absolutely one of my favorites from last year – written from the perspective of a married mother who has lived through some shit, I loved how it presented an imperfect version of contemporary womanhood that didn’t fall into Nashville’s acceptable age boxes (namely, young and cute or “old” and legendary). Her new Second Wife EP is a sweet and vulnerable ode to her marriage, both the insecurities and the moments of levity that forge a long term bond. I love this one – a little country ditty called “Prenup.” She never writes what you’re expecting, but it always sounds good. - MM

The Golden Crystal Kingdom, Vincent Neil Emerson: Texas country via Laurel Canyon, produced by Shooter Jennings, by a friend of the newsletter (read our interview with him from earlier this week here!). Emerson’s voice is relaxed and warm, and on these songs it’s bolstered by classic, rich instrumentals — as a whole, it hits like the most welcome exhale. — NW
