Put A Record On: Nothin' But North Texas Country
From my radio show to your...streaming service of choice :)

I’ve officially been hosting my radio show Nothin’ But North Texas for just about six months! For the uninitiated, I have a show on the streaming arm of my local community radio station, the inimitable KNON 89.3 FM (the streaming station is KNON Now!). It’s called Nothin’ But North Texas because, well, I play nothin’ but music that is connected to North Texas in some way: Work from artists/producers/songwriters who are from here, grew up here, lived here at some point in their life or in some other way are tied to the region, as well as recordings from local labels and studios. I try to be as omnivorous genre-wise as I can be, but of course there’s a bias towards the genres that I am most attached to — primarily jazz and country.
So, I figured it might be fun to share a big slice of the country and country adjacent music I’ve played on the show so far with a playlist! It’s pretty massive, and yet looking at the songs all I can think about is how much isn’t there — how much more I need to include!! Some of the artists are commonly associated with Dallas-Fort Worth — see the consistently wonderful Eleven Hundred Springs, pictured above — and others you may think of as more closely tied to other places (No, Willie is not a typo — Dallas and Fort Worth are the closest big cities to his hometown of Abbott, and he’s spent plenty of time in both over the years!).
Hopefully this playlist offers plenty to explore, and encourages you to check out the show! It airs every Thursday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. CT at knonnow.org :) At a minimum, you gotta listen to “Long Haired Tattooed Hippie Freaks,” possibly the ultimate Dallas country song.
