The Good
***First off, a couple benefit compilations for L.A. wildfire relief efforts. Buy one or better yet buy them all - $30 or, better yet, more, for a good cause and great music.***
Back in the Garage - Los Angeles Fire Relief Compilation: A collection of almost 60 tracks recorded by Back In The Garage by artists including Desiree Cannon, Esther Rose, Serafia and Luke Pelletier. You can read more about it here from Donnie Cutler.
Desert Balm - A Compilation for MusiCares LA Relief Fund: More ambient/alt-folk vibes than country country but great tunes and a great cause nevertheless.
Super Bloom: A Benefit for Fire Relief in Los Angeles: Jenny Lewis, Swamp Dogg, Hiss Golden Messenger and many many more on this enormous compilation.
“Sylvia,” Julien Baker & Torres: Less purely twangy than their first single “Sugar in the Tank” (surely one of my most listened to songs currently) but laced with this beautiful melodic pop sensibility and unison singing, so I am still equally obsessed. Very much preparing for this to be one of my albums of the year and it’s only January 31 (but on the other hand, January has been 150 days this year). - MM
