The Good

“Country Time,” K. Michelle: K. Michelle just dropped the second single from her upcoming country album, “Tennessee,” which is definitely good and has a kind of “Daddy Lessons” vibe. But it also sent me down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out why I remembered K. Michelle talking about her love of country music like, a decade ago (or if I had just imagined it). In the process I found this cover she did of a Blanco Brown song, which is awesome: the Memphis native (who often shares the story of how her yodeling helped get her a music scholarship to FAMU) going full twang mode, with pleasantly messy country samples and a satisfying beat drop. Please don’t get boring to try and make radio pay attention, K. Michelle!! — NW
