The Good
“Sweet,” Jobi Riccio: I’m excited about the whole debut record from Jodi Riccio, Whiplash, and this song is a little bit classic country, a little bit nineties Sheryl Crow kiss-of, and that’s about as winning a combination as you can get. This is the anthem for anyone who doesn’t want to conform or change to make other people happy, find a love or make people comfortable in your presence. Wear what you want, be who you want, be with who you want. Yes, please. - M.M.
“Long And Lonesome Letting Go,” Jim Lauderdale and the Po’ Ramblin’ Boys ft. Del McCoury: I guess we’re going to have to start like Natalie’s Bluegrass Corner or something — this is just legends doing legend things and it sounds really good (if my country bona fides ran deeper, I’d say it sounds real good). — N.W.
“Closer I Get,” Margo Price ft. Ny Oh: “Standing for something is hard, standing for nothing is harder,” sings Margo Price on this psychedelic country-rocker, a type of music that Margo basically owns at this point, because honestly no one is doing it better right now. This gem featuring Harry Styles bandmate Ny Oh is from part one of Strays II, the companion to her truly excellent fourth record that came out earlier this year. - M.M.
