The Good
“Watchin’ the World Pass Me By,” Kristina Murray: I wrote about Kristina Murray as an artist you need to know in Rolling Stone back in 2018, when she was already on her second album - if that tells you how long she’s toiling around Nashville making super potent country ballads and boot scootin’ honkytonk. Just signed to New West/Normaltown (finally!), the first song from her forthcoming LP Little Blue is a window into the world of a hardworking musician who watches while starlets on “daddy’s bankroll” hit the big time - I think Kristina’s going to have the last laugh, though. - MM
"Lie A Little," Ashland Craft: I feel like there have been years of solid Ashland Craft singles at this point; this bluesy, rich tune is just one more. It's not trying to change the world but it sounds good! More please! — NW
“Drink from Me,” The War and Treaty featuring Billy Strings: Not so subtle plug for my NY Times feature on the band, but their new album, Plus One, is just excellent - and I picked this song to highlight for the DRTI crew who I know would love the seamless way they meld Billy Strings’ fast-picking bluegrass with their gospel harmonies. Anyway, some romantic-ass shit for your Valentine’s Day, if you are feeling it! (If not, we have plenty of heartbreak tunes for you, too) - MM
